LYMPHO NEWS
Dear friends,
It has been so exciting recently to see some of the amazing feats from Paris at the Olympic Games. I understand that there are athletes with lymphoedema competing in both the Olympics and the upcoming Paralympics. What an inspiration that is and what a reminder to all of us as to what can be achieved by people living with the condition. When the ILF was undertaking one of their first research studies, we had the opportunity to interview children in the UK who had a diagnosis of lymphoedema. Amazing young people, most of whom were determined to succeed even if they couldn’t run as fast now or play football as well as they wanted, they were not going to give up. The ILF remains determined to help find treatments, strategies for living, and hopefully a cure. We hope you will work along with us.
Our newsletter for September will focus on children with lymphoedema, so please let us know if you have news or updates concerning the children with lymphoedema in your area.
With best wishes from
Christine Moffatt CBE and the ILF Board of Directors

Awards in Science 2023
The Rosalind Franklin Society ( www.rosalindfranklinsociety.org) who recognise the outstanding contributions from women and minorities in science, has named Christine Moffatt as a 2023 recipient of an Award in Science. The award is given in recognition of the LIMPRINT study (Moffatt et al, 2019) [ https://www.lympho.org/limprint], which was the largest international epidemiology study carried out to address the issues of under-recognition of lymphoedema and related disorders, and the need for clearer definitions of the conditions to allow appropriate treatment for people with lymphoedema globally.

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, India
Christine Moffatt is currently visiting India where she has been invited to meet with members of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation so they can understand more about lymphoedema, its causes, and treatment. She is visiting a number of the centres both in the north and south of India where treatment is being carried out because of a generous grant from the Gates Foundation. During her two week visit she will also give a number of lectures to faculty members, students, and nurses sharing past research findings and sharing the work that is ongoing or to be undertaken by the ILF in the future.

Meetings and events
Australian Lymphology Association conference, May 2024
|
|
The Australian Lymphology Association Conference was held on 1–5 May 2024 in Adelaide, South Australia. The Conference was well attended with a full and extremely vibrant programme causing much discussion and networking. The international speakers included Cheryl Brunelle from Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor Brandon Dixon from Georgia Tech. Professor Christine Moffatt was also an invited speaker and the continuing work of the ILF was of great interest for everyone attending.
The final day of the conference was a Public Information Day organised by the Lymphoedema Association of Australia. The day was both informative and practical and gave people with lymphoedema the opportunity to meet with each other and with professionals delivering care.
