LYMPHO NEWS
Dear friends,
Lymphoedema Awareness Week was celebrated this month (6–10 March), including World Lymphoedema Day. This annual event to recognise the reality of lymphoedema and the ongoing needs of patients, professionals, academics and industry has grown year on year. This is evidenced by the number of events during 2024, including podcasts, webinars, social media input, and local exhibitions. Indeed, the ILF attended the Wound Care Today conference in Milton Keynes, UK on two days of Lymphoedema Awareness Week, with a booth and presentations showing the reality of this condition to many practitioners and patients.
On 20 March 2024, a group of interested parties, including members of the Australian Federal Parliament, patients, professionals, and academics, will meet at Government House, Canberra to launch the Friends of Lymphoedema Parliamentary Group and to hear how the growing burden of lymphoedema impacts individuals, their loved ones, carers and the Australian health system. Much credit for this must go to Monique Bareham, a patient from South Australia who is committed to promoting and pushing for the patient population she represents. The ILF will be represented by Susie Murray who currently lives in Australia.
As always, it is great to hear your news — research findings, collaborations, new initiatives, or upcoming events, etc. Please do get in touch so that we can share what is happening within the ILF global community through this newsletter.
With best wishes,
Christine Moffatt CBE and the ILF Board of Directors

Christine Moffatt CBE and Susan Nørregaard were actively involved throughout the UK’s leading wound care event, Wound Care Today 2024, which took place in Milton Keynes during Lymphoedema Awareness Week. They not only took part in the expert panel discussion for the patient day, which involved patients with lipoedema and addressed their needs and concerns directly, but also ran an interactive skills zone on ‘Clinical challenges in compression,’ providing practical insights and solutions to healthcare professionals.

World Lymphoedema Day Celebrations in Turkey
The Turkish Lymphedema Society celebrated Lymphedema Awareness Day on the 6th March with great enthusiasm. An educational programme was organised for both patients and related health professionals in one of its EC member's host hospitals (Etlik City Hospital). Lymphoedema bracelets were given to the patients and a small band played and sang songs to entertain them. Another hospital, in which one of the EC members is responsible for the Lymphedema Unit (Ankara Gaziler Education and Research Hospital) also celebrated the 6th of March with an education meeting for health professionals.
